Just the other day, I was having a conversation with my father about immigrants (from any country)failure to read English. He said that he Asians succeed and learn English because they try. You can't understand a word they say, but they make the attempt to speak the language. Mexican's on the other hand, he said: "We don't try because we don't wan to feel stupid".
I guess its preferable not to look and feel stupid, than to actually try and learn something.
