Marco Rubio's thought provoking question

“What side are they on? I can’t understand,” he said onstage responding to them. “Are they for it or against it? I couldn’t tell. What they’re asking for is completely unrealistic.” Asked Marco Rubio about the hecklers who attended Jeff Duncan’s 4th annual BBQ. Rubio supported immigration reform in 2013 that leaned too far left for many right wing Republicans. Today some leftist Democrats will be point at him and accusing him of selling out and caving in to Republican pressure. So I think he is a very apt person to be able to ask such questions! He may be a politician who stood for something then when his constituency disapproved he had to change for he is their representative.

So who are the Dreamers representing? What side are they on? This is actually a very rational question and there are many answers, but for the purposes of brevity and simplicity let us only focus on a couple of answers. Dreamers without a doubt represent the hopes and dreams of the Hispanic community. They represent those who are abused, underpaid, overworked, underprivileged and underrepresented because of their legal status. The Dreamers represent every immigrant from every generation (legal or illegal) from Europe to America and every country, island and continent in between. They remind us that humanity sees the United States as a beacon of hope, laws, wealth, greed but most of all opportunity.

What side are they on? They are on the side of what is right for children who have been plucked from their homeland by their parents in search of that beacon that throughout the 19th, 20th and 21st century has provided the world with a light at the end of the tunnel. Many have migrated to the US legally but even more have done so illegally. The question is if we are morally justified to penalize the children for a crime which they neither intended to commit, nor where they allowed a choice to not commit?

I call on Dreamers to be on the side of reason! What does Rubio mean when he said that what the dreamers are asking for is completely unrealistic? My interpretation is that he realizes that for every action there is an equal opposite reaction. For everything there is a cause and effect; causality. We have established that children, whose parents illegally migrate to the United States, should not be held liable for breaking a law for which they had zero power to uphold. The question is if these individuals should be granted a path to citizenship. For many Republicans this is the most extreme request a Dreamer can make, and as such dreamers must learn to recognize the magnitude of their request. If Dreamers get everything they ask for, then they must be willing to give everything that their counterparts are asking for, even if in the Dreamers eyes the request seems extreme as both parties wants are extreme requests to the other sides.

If Dreamers and other illegal immigrants get their way then so will their opponents. This means we will have to actually secure our borders, ensure that no employer hires illegal immigrants (this in itself will in my opinion raise prices on many things and cause a workforce shortage in industries like construction, lawn care, hospitality, etc.) Probably the most likely result will be massive deportations of all those who did not qualify for an immigration adjustment. I urge everyone to realize that the more you ask the more you will have to give.
I suggest we ask for the legalization of immigrants in tiers. First let us legalize all those whose adult children can sponsor them and the parents as well as the children have clean backgrounds.

Second, we should legalize those who have been in this country for at least 25 years and have absolutely no run-ins with the law. (I think moving violations are acceptable but nothing more severe than that). Perhaps it should be done in 5 year intervals until we legalize those who have only been here for 5 years. On a side note please keep in mind that none of these people will take any additional jobs any more as they are already here working.

In exchange anyone with less than 5 year established residency as of August 27, 2014 will be deported back to their country. Border security will be tightening to where we reduce to at least 50% of the current influx of illegal immigrants. Penalties for companies who hire illegal immigrants will be severe enough as to discourage their employment. Lastly, this one is my least favorite but in order to legalize those who are already are here, we must ensure that any new illegal immigrants are barred from seeking an immigration adjustment for at least a period of 30 years from the date they entered the country illegally. (30 years is merely an arbitrary number at this moment).
With this plan both illegal immigrants and right wing Republicans will both have things to gain. So dear Dreamers you must realize that you must be willing to give up some things to gain others. I point this out to you because at this point your opponent has the higher ground and you want what they have, so you must adapt your strategy because the one currently established is not working. It is time to start trying something different.
